International Relations, Public Communications, and Regional Studies. Graduates can pursue careers as:

Sociology. Career opportunities for graduates include positions in small, medium, and large organizations, enterprises, institutions, departments, and institutes within the social, educational, research, and consulting sectors. Roles may include:

Research Activities

Currently, the Institute operates three departments, each focusing on distinct areas of scientific research.

Department of History and Archaeology

Key research areas:

• The history of Ukraine across different historical epochs, the regional history of Luhansk, and issues of national historiography and source studies.

• A robust school of regional studies has emerged in recent years, led by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Oleksandr Viktorovych Naboka, and Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Olha Andriivna Drobysheva.

• Systematic study of various aspects of world history.

Historical research traditions at the department are rooted in several scientific schools established during the University’s development:

• The school founded by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Wolf Mendelovich Beilys (1923–2001) in the 1970s. His followers, including Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Viktor Hryhorovych Kryukov, continued studying Eastern literary monuments as sources for medieval history.

• In the 1990s, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Mykhailo Stepanovych Buryan established a school focused on the history of international relations and foreign policy of major Eastern states in modern and contemporary times.

• The early 2000s saw the formation of a third school under Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Ihor Serhiiovych Mykhalskyi, studying “Sources of Political History and Thought of the 19th–20th Centuries.”

Department of Political Science and International Relations

Key activities:

• Postgraduate and doctoral programs are available at the department.

• Main research themes include:“The Role of Armed Violence in Power Relations”“Ukraine’s Integration Processes in the Era of Globalization”

Students are actively involved in research, including scientific projects, writing academic papers, and preparing conference abstracts within these themes.

Achievements:

• Numerous scientific accomplishments, including successful doctoral defenses by Svitlana Oleksandrivna Vovk and Anton Vasylovych Bader.

• The department established an Applied Research Laboratory to promote collaborative work among faculty, graduate students, and students.

Student engagement:

• The "Analityka" Political and Legal Club serves as a platform for discussing Ukraine’s socio-political development issues.

Department of Philosophy and Sociology

Key research focus:

• Implementation of the research program “Relations Between Eastern and Western Ukraine: Seeking Historical Compromise” in collaboration with the Canadian Institute of Ukrainian Studies at the University of Alberta.
